Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokemon!

Here, humans travel the world and battle alongside their Pokemon partners! Through their bonds, humans and Pokemon both become stronger, and they constantly improve through battle and friendship!

... At least, that's what the history books say.

You see, it's been over a millennia since humans existed.

Nobody knows how they vanished, or why. The mythical ones that have lived for many thousands of years don't speak of it, either. In fact, none of us are sure that these stories are even real.

The only thing linking our knowledge and remembrance of humans is the technology we inherited from them. Over the past thousand years, we have utilized and worked with it. Human technology bestowed bountiful knowledge upon us, and we in turn used it to achieve ever greater things in pursuit of happiness and peace in the Pokemon world.

There are those that refuse to use it, of course. Some even forego the human forms that we've developed over the last few hundred years. But in the end, it's everyone's choice whether to use the gifts we've been given or not.

What about you, though? Do you want to help keep the Pokemon world thriving? There's a town known by all - the centerpiece of technology and where we've begun to live a mixed life with Pokemon and human ways both - known as Poketropolis.

Yeah, sure, it's not exactly a unique name. But I can guarantee you it's the best place to live if you want to experience the height of life, meet new friends, maybe more... you interested? Hey, there's even the Poketropolis Academy if you want to learn something. There's not even an age limit like there used to be for human schools! Young or old, anyone's welcome to attend classes at any time!

Just, uh, be careful. The wilderness isn't always safe, even for a well-equipped Pokemon...

Poketropolis is a mixed slice-of-life and adventure invite-only game set in the world of Pokemon, over 1000 years after humans vanished. There's something for everyone, whether they want to just settle in and enjoy life, attend classes, venture out and battle the mysterious shadows that have been sighed in the wilderness... or any mixture of the above!

You must be a friend of the mod or a friend of someone already in the game to join. Any other requests will be denied.


FAQ:

Is this an AU game or a jamjar game?

This is an AU game. Characters cannot be brought in from other canons, they must be AU'd into the setting itself. Characters can be any Pokemon whether it would fit their original forms or not. Original Characters are allowed as well; I only ask that people include links to bios in the character's journal for easy referencing!


Are there any Pokemon my character can't be?

As of right now, mythical/legendary Pokemon are off-limits. (Primarily because they've lived for so long they definitely would've known humans before they vanished.) This rule may change in the future, and everyone will be notified if that is the case.


Can more than one person play the same character AU'd?

Yes, but they need to have differences, whether that be AU-ing different periods in the timelines, or different versions, such as Cloud being in FF7, the remake of FF7, Smash, and Dissidia. I'll leave it up to people to hash out details if this happens, but please be kind to one another! Remember that it is an AU and you can change any information to better fit the setting, even their name if necessary!


Does my character have to go to school?

Not at all! The school is in the heart of the city, so residents don't have to live at the school to attend, or even attend multiple classes. As the premise says: young or old, all Pokemon are welcome to take classes at the school at any time. They do have to *enroll*, of course, but they can do so at any time. It's a dangerous world out there, so they can take battle classes, even ones that allow them to learn moves they normally wouldn't otherwise... Or they can just take classes on gardening, cooking... the power is yours to decide!


WAAAAAAIT wait wait waitwaitwait. Did you say 'learn moves they normally wouldn't otherwise'?

Well, TMs and HMs do exist, of course - those have definitely been inherited from the lost human technology, and expanded to include way more moves. But you don't have to use those, either! You can, with enough practice and practical knowhow, learn moves from other Pokemon through tutoring! Please keep in mind that they need to be able to pull off the move with either what their base Pokemon form offers, or what their humanoid form can do if their original form doesn't have arms/legs/etc.


Does my Pokemon have to use a humanoid form?

Nope! As mentioned in the premise, some opt to shun the ability to take on a humanoid form. And, of course, plenty of Pokemon exist that are humanoid enough that they don't need to take on that type of form!

As for how one achieves it, it's typically an item that they keep on their person, be it wearable or just something they're able to effortlessly carry. Be creative! Anything is possible.


Are there limited invites for people to invite their friends?

There are not, but I do ask you to please try to limit invites to one or two a month. I won't be keeping a tally or anything, and I'm not going to complain if someone invites three in a short span of time. I just ask that you keep it in moderation.

Also, please do not forget to tell me specifically when you invite someone so I don't reject their request to join the comms!! I'm the only one modding this right now so I absolutely need to know beforehand.


What's this about shadowy figures in the wilderness?

Don't worry, all will be revealed in good time. But this is an excellent chance for the more battle-inclined to sharpen their senses and hone their moves...


Is there an overarching story?

Kind of! Really the only 'overarching' story is the one preceding humans vanishing - everything else is up to the players! I'll probably toss in some short plots myself, but feel free to suggest your own! The game is your oyster. Not every Pokemon is good, and some will use the technology for ulterior motives, after all...


What kind of technology does Poketropolis, and the wider Pokemon world, have in the present day?

Our own Earth's present day technology is a good baseline, but there exist better forms of transportation, far exceeding the olden days of human trains and planes! Larger flying pokemon can use their own power combined with thrusters to achieve very quick flights, taking other Pokemon between Poketropolis and the wider world, for instance.

Heck, if you want Back to the Future style hoverboards, go nuts!

Everyone has a smartphone, of course - how else would you interact with others? They're the coolest, newest form of communication!

There's even a proper network inside cyberspace that allows Pokemon to be like the Porygon lineup and enter physically and traverse. Be careful though, it isn't entirely safe... viruses and bugs and malicious programs do exist.

In short, suggest things, make things a reality and have fun with it!
